Good Morning

When a man can't even take a piss in peace

CHICAGO — A gunman attempted to rob a man inside Lincoln Park on Sunday evening as he urinated on a tree. Chicago police said the victim is in fair condition.

The 49-year-old was riding in a car but stopped to relieve himself next to a tree near Diversey Parkway and Cannon Drive around 7:40 p.m. As he was standing next to the tree, a stranger approached, displayed a gun, and demanded his property.

Why does Ernest T Bass immediately come to mind?

That pussy can't be that good, son

A 27-year-old Florida man was arrested Saturday evening on allegations of driving 108 mph on Interstate 95 in Brevard County because he was in a hurry to see his girlfriend, an affidavit states.

John Joshua Webb – Lawman Turned Outlaw

Serving most of his adult life as a lawman, John Joshua Webb (J.J.) was also a hunter, teamster, surveyor, hired gun, and member of the notorious Dodge City Gang in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Born on February 14, 1847, in Keokuk County, Iowa, J.J. was the seventh of twelve children born to William Webb, Jr. and Innocent Blue Brown Webb.

In 1862, the family moved to Nebraska and then, later, to Osage City, Kansas. Webb traveled west in 1871, becoming a buffalo hunter and then a surveyor in Colorado. He then drifted from Deadwood, South Dakota, to Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Dodge City, Kansas.

I'm sure she's taken, men

U.S. Defense Spending Continues To Spiral Out of Control

How much the U.S. should allocate to the Department of Defense remains a contentious topic in the debate over government spending.

After a great deal of chaos, on March 23—about halfway through the fiscal year—Congress approved an appropriations bill worth $825 billion for defense in FY 2024 to avoid a partial government shutdown, less than the $842 billion request by the administration. Not long before, on March 11, President Joe Biden's Administration submitted their request for FY 2025, which included $850 billion for defense.

Louisiana Lawmakers Defer Bill Creating New Orleans Carveout to Constitutional Carry

Lawmakers in Baton Rouge haven't officially killed a bill that would have created several new exemptions to the state's new Constitutional Carry law, but on Wednesday the House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice did place the bill in a legislative limbo by deferring action indefinitely.

I would have preferred to see the bill voted down instead of being shunted off to the side, but either way, it appears that the Republican majority won't be giving to the demands of Crescent City officials.

Nashville Police Say ‘Ongoing Investigation’ Prevents Release Of Covenant Shooter’s Manifesto

Attorneys representing Nashville, Tennessee argued Tuesday in court that police were still investigating aspects of the shooting committed at the Covenant School last March, when a transgender-identifying shooter murdered six people, and, therefore, the city is unable to release documents related to the case such as the shooter’s writings.

Judge weighs ‘heavy burden’ of deciding future of Covenant writings; says case will set precedent

After two days of listening to both sides of the argument, a Davidson County judge will be deciding whether the Covenant School shooter’s writings should be released to the public.

The show-cause hearing began on Tuesday, April 16, with each plaintiff spending several hours presenting their arguments to Davidson County Chancellor I’Ashea Myles.

Setting precedent as to whether mass shooters’ writings should be made public seemed to weigh on the judge and came up frequently as Myles noted she was thinking about the “broader implications” of the hearing.

Commentary: Speaker Mike Johnson’s ‘Personal Conservatism’ Betrays the Conservative Movement

The election of Representative Mike Johnson of Louisiana to Speaker of the House has thrown into stark relief the difference between what one might call “personal conservatives” and those of us who consider ourselves to be part of the conservative movement, or movement conservatives.
